Karachi - July 11, 2023: As a part of its continued efforts to empower young girls, JazzCash, Pakistan’s leading mobile wallet, has joined hands with the Government of Sindh to promote girls’ education with the disbursement of stipends. Through this program, JazzCash will be facilitating the education of over 275,000 girls across Sindh.
One of the biggest challenges to girls’ education in Pakistan is poverty, with girls in poorer families being 52% less likely to attend school than girls in wealthy households. In recent years, the Government of Sindh has taken significant steps to incentivize girls’ education to promote their inclusion in the educational mainstream.
While speaking at the signing ceremony, Murtaza Ali, Head of JazzCash, commented, “Gender equality in education is a crucial developmental objective in defining progress. JazzCash is committed to supporting frameworks that foster gender equity at all levels.” He added, “We are honored to partner with the Government of Sindh to bring about educational reform through this program.”
The collaboration is a part of the “Services for Disbursement of Girls’ Stipends all over Sindh” program under the Government’s Reform Support Unit for School Education & Literacy, aimed at offering financial assistance to bridge the gap in girls’ education.
As a part of this program, JazzCash will disburse a total of PKR 800 million in over 45 talukas (tehsils) of Sindh. This will be done by leveraging the digital and physical infrastructure of the JazzCash retailers’ network spread across Sindh. To ensure that all payments reach deserving families in a manner that is safe and secure, all transactions for the stipends will be done entirely digitally through JazzCash.
JazzCash will ensure maximum turnout for the collection of funds for the girls’ families by deploying a thorough outreach strategy with the support of local teams. In collaboration with JazzCash’s network, this program will play a vital role in enhancing early enrollment and reducing gender gaps in education.
JazzCash is playing a critical role in promoting the inclusion and well-being of women through its products, services, and various sustainability initiatives. The company is digitally empowering women by facilitating their access to health, financial, and other life-enhancing services.
As a member of GSMA’s Connected Women Initiative, JazzCash has committed to increasing the overall user base of women to 50% in the next few years – with the number currently standing at 24%. The company’s numerous programs aim to enhance digital literacy among girls, create avenues for their financial freedom, and maximize female-led enterprises in the startup ecosystem.
