Jazz Holds Tree Plantation Drive in Peshawar as Part of its Carbon Sink Project

ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR – March 6, 2024: Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital operator, organized a tree plantation drive in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar as part of its nationwide Carbon Sink project which aims to promote environmental conservation and combat climate change. During the drive, Jacaranda, Kachnar, and Alstonia saplings were planted to create carbon sinks in the region.

Captain (Retd.) Khalid Mehmood, DG Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) was the chief guest on the occasion. Other dignitaries, including Additional D.G. PDA Manzoor Yousaf, Director PDA Sajid Khan, as well as Jazz employees and school children participated in the activity.

While speaking on the occasion, DG PDA, Captain (Retd.) Khalid Mehmood lauded Jazz’s carbon sink project, saying, “I commend Jazz’s dedication towards mitigating carbon emissions, including their remarkable carbon sink project. Let’s follow their lead, plant trees, and nurture a greener world for generations to come. Every seed planted today is a promise for a brighter tomorrow.”

Jazz’s Head of HSE & Security, Salman Ishtiaq Tariq, highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “In 2022, Jazz had pledged to become a net zero carbon emitting company by 2050 and since then Jazz is actively taking mitigation and adaptation actions to offset its carbon footprint. Last year, we initiated the tree plantation drive from Islamabad and now we are heading towards a regional drive to secure a sustainable future.”

Jazz has taken number of initiatives towards prevention of pollution. Some of the key activities in this regard are; mandatory work from home on Fridays, solid waste management, paper recycling, circular economy of e-waste and plastic waste, reduction in SIM card jackets, and energy audits leading to the adoption of energy efficiency and conservation practices.
